CMRA Onboarding Disclosure
What this means — plain-English summary, not legally binding; the full text below governs.
- MyEverAddress receives mail for you as a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA), which the U.S. Postal Service regulates.
- Before we can receive your mail, you must complete USPS Form 1583 and verify your identity — this is a legal requirement, not our preference.
- Your address is a private mailbox (PMB) and must be written in the format we give you.
- USPS can require us to share your identity records with postal inspectors and law enforcement.
- A mailing address is not the same as legal residence or domicile — those depend on the law and the institution, not on us.
1. What a CMRA is
A Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA) is a private business that receives mail on behalf of customers under rules set by the United States Postal Service (USPS). MyEverAddress operates as a CMRA so that we can receive, hold, and act on mail addressed to you. USPS does not endorse, sponsor, or certify MyEverAddress; operating as a CMRA is a regulatory registration, not a government endorsement.
2. USPS Form 1583 is required
Federal postal rules require you to complete USPS PS Form 1583, “Application for Delivery of Mail Through Agent,” before a CMRA may receive mail for you. You must list the names of everyone (individuals and businesses) who will receive mail at your mailbox. We keep the completed form and related records as USPS requires. See our plain-language Form 1583 Guide.
3. Identity verification
You must verify your identity as part of onboarding. This generally involves providing valid identification (typically two forms, at least one with a photograph) and completing the identity-verification or notarization step then required by USPS. Requirements and acceptable methods change over time; we will guide you through the current process at signup. Identity documents are handled securely, as described in the Privacy Policy and Security Practices.
4. Your address format
Your mailbox is a Private Mailbox (PMB). USPS requires the address to identify it as a private mailbox. We provide the exact required format, which typically looks like:
Your Name
123 Example Street PMB 4567
City, ST 00000
Use the address exactly as we provide it. Using a nonconforming format can cause mail to be delayed or returned.
5. Records and law enforcement
Because we operate as a CMRA, we are required to keep your identity records and to make them available to postal inspectors and law enforcement on lawful request. We disclose such records only as the law requires or permits. See the Privacy Policy.
6. Onboarding statuses
During onboarding, your account moves through clearly labeled states, which may include: application started; documents submitted; under review; form incomplete; awaiting identity verification or notarization; awaiting CMRA processing; approved; address active; more information required; or rejected. We do not mark your address active or imply approval before the required steps are actually complete.
7. Address is not legal residency
A PMB mailing address is a mailing address. It is not a statement that you legally reside there, and it may not be accepted for legal residency, domicile, voter registration, driver’s licensing, vehicle registration, insurance, banking, tax residency, or similar purposes. Acceptance is decided by those institutions and by law, and varies by state and situation. We do not provide legal, tax, immigration, or residency advice; consult a qualified professional. See the Terms of Service.
8. Public demo
The free demo simulates the onboarding experience with fictional data and does not collect real identity documents or submit any real Form 1583.
9. Changes and contact
Postal requirements change; we follow the current USPS process and will guide you through it. Questions about onboarding: support@myeveraddress.com.
